The Church of England cannot claim to pursue justice while directing £100 million towards symbolic reparations instead of serving those who are suffering.
After abolishing slavery Western capitalism became color blind meritocracy, you were judged on the content of your character, education & or training. That was/is your reparations. Ancestors trying to get easy cash payouts hundreds of years later instead of putting in personal effort, is just an old western train robbery of track laying employees salaries.
Are we going to get reparations from the Barbary pirates, I mean the Moroccans and Tunisians, and Algerians, and Libyans for the 300 years of grabbing and taking europeans as slaves? Just wondering.

I’ve always been singularly unimpressed by arguments for reparations. Here’s my own spin on life. My Romanian mother crossed the Atlantic to Canada in 1929. My father emigrated from Lithuania in 1929 as well though they never met in Europe, only in Canada. Both left Europe on account of the emerging threat to Jews courtesy of our friend Hitler. Which is to say I am on this planet as a Jew because of Hitler. There is no reasonable likelihood that my parents, living in two distant countries, would have met in Europe. Every cloud has a silver lining. A similar argument can be made for the descendants of every single black slave who was transported to America, Caribbean or elsewhere. They owe their very lives to slavery and accordingly we owe them nothing. They are living the best lives ever. Every cloud has a silver lining, the rub of the green.
Are Jews going to demand reparations? Are Christians going to demand reparations for treatment of ancient ancestors. Nobody alive today who belongs to these groups has suffered slavery. There is slavery alive and well in Muslim countries today as well as pseudo slavery of young men, women and children in sex trafficking throughout the world. How addressing this?
One other thing. Liberal churches like the Church of England or just like liberal churches in America and the Catholic church in my opinion who have abandoned the gospel of salvation by grace alone for social justice works. Instead of, society being changed from within by changed hearts and minds, the self-governance prerequisite of self-government democracy/representative constitutional republics, essentially traded it in for climate communism & d e i lgbtq socialism, totally abandoning the judeo Christian exceptionalism of Western Civilization!

Archbishop of Canterbury paying out reparations for virtue signaling to a victim “community” du jour based on centuries old harm using a blood guilt rationale is no different than the sale of indulgences that kicked off the Protestant faith to “protest” the corrupt Roman Catholic Church. This is hilarious that one of the early Protestant nations with its own State religion (and a failed World Empire now in the dustbin) is now “morally” headed by an indulgence seller and a “royal” who wanted to take a coronation oath with Holy Olive Oil from Israel as the “Defender of All Faiths” but was only allowed by the indulgence seller’s predecessor to shake hands by the exit door with the willing other faith leaders.
The church's reparations should be to preach the sexual morality it failed to preach to polygamous Africa, instead handing it dum diversas in 1452. Priests, preach humanae vitae every week (every day!) for the 50 years you didn't.
Polygamy is not a sin so what you talking about:-). The bible clearly didn't consider it so. Many great men of the bible, people who walked hand-in-hand with God - and probably knew him better than you and ever will - were largely polygamous, including Abraham (father of faith), Isaac, Jacob, David (man after God's own heart), Solomon (blessed by God as the wisest man ever). Fornication, adultery and homosexuality on the other hand are clearly frowned upon by the God of the bible.
