Thank you. Our sense of collective purpose needs to align with what is distinctly American/local and distinctly “good and beautiful” at the same time. The America imagined (but not yet realized) by our Founders. Now we need a Protestant Ethic redefined for the 21st-century new frontier. Not wealth accumulation for its own sake, but for the sake of lifting all boats in all the right ways: faith, family, mutual respect, rigorous competition, rule of law, common decency. No cheating or shortcuts attempting a workaround of human nature. Our country, our way of life; you are welcome to try to come, but once here you must adapt to our diverse “us,” not the other way around.
This is such a good example of how nostalgia works. People remember the feeling around the thing long after the thing itself has become slightly embarrassing.
At the young age of 250, the "united" states of America (USOA) may well hope it has been influencial. A lot of immigrants came to North America seeking, aspiring for a better opportunity. Maybe the inspiration of a community that rewards aspiration is magnetic. The old world offered very limited opportunity to aspiring minds without approved cosnnection. Millions upon millions brought here not by choice find they can grow today not by knelling before old ways.
As we learn that transience is profoundly real, we can build with bricks of confidence that the growth opportunities make humans stronger.
