The plan to destroy America has been a long time in the works. But when COVID hit-the Biden admin shut down small businesses and left Amazon and big box to do what they do- DESTROY LOCAL BUSINESSES.

the American People who WANT America to be strong again MUST BREAK THE AMAZON/big box habit.

I would love for the Trump administration or the Republicans propose and enact a limited, well structured (fraud proof), federal grant to American small business owners who lost their businesses under the draconian, unconstitutional (or 'facist' if you prefer) state government mandated lockdowns. Perhaps one of the stipulations might be the new business must be opened in a state that had no such mandates or a state that has publicly admitted its actions were unconstitutional (facist) and commits to supplement the grant with matching funds to reach the required amount.

You should run for Congress in whatever state you live in. Your proposal is astoundingly well thought out and doable. AND you correctly denominated government use of and deference to corporatism as "facist", just as Mussolini coined the term to mean.

Both you and Christian are leaving the S out of 'fascist.' 'Facist' sounds like someone who draws faces.

Thanks for pointing out the typo.

I see it so many places, I just had to correct it here. I get the feeling that most of the people using the word haven't read it in proper context.

Yes. Yes. Yes! Give me humans and I will return to your company again!

Trust is a natural resource and the fundamental thing that makes cultures wealthy. (I do miss the continued presence of Dr. Jordan Peterson and pray he is on the mend.)

For me the frustration lies when the call center person comes on the line and immediately goes into the "how is your day going.." and this will go on for a few minutes. All I want to do is get straight to the issue. Maybe this is a diffusing strategy? Idk, but I have little patience for it.

They are Hindus and they are trained to say this because they are taught that Americans expect "personal" friendliness from service workers, sort of like cashiers who say "have a good one" [good what never specified] or hookers who say " you were the best one I ever did".

Having worked in a call center for the IRS, this rings true in so many ways.

Not only are some offshore accents difficult to understand, when I ask for a repeat of an answer I get a rude, aggressive "I already ansered you.." sort of response. There's a cultural difference that can't be trained.

Exactly. I've often encountered the same attitude.

What America NEEDS TO DO is REVITALIZE towns and cities and STOP using Amazon and big box.

Shop Local - no order online. That brings business and jobs and opportunity.

amazon and big box CHOKE THE LIFE OUT OF THIS COUNTRY!

And let us minimize use of text or email only interactions that are inefficient and impersonal.

Elizabeth Rome's avatar

Especially get rid of the--"I can help you in the --chat" Then all a person gets is canned answers that do not come close to solving the problem--and add to the frustration.

Exactly...Especially Finamcial Institutions!

And often absolutely irrelevant.

Yes! Chewy has American call center reps and they are so good. I also don’t want to be told that I can change my life insurance or whatever in the app. I do not want the stupid app.

I feel like such a helpless idiot when I cannot understand what my call center assistant is saying to me! I just give up.

I am so relieved to read that many share my frustration. It is appalling that so many firms have thrown us to the wolves having to fend for ourselves word by word in an attempt to be understood and assisted

A.I. has replaced many of the foreign call center people. You ARE talking to a machine but even though you don‘t get your issues resolved, you can at least understand them. And the foreign workers benefitted too because it is rumoured that they found work as newsreaders for our national Canadian Broadcast Organisation.

BAM! Hit nail on the head. But no nail was harmed in your post, of course. I have doubts that the FCC will follow through and, even if it does, will King Boasberg approve? I doubt it. Also, why hasn't the FTC already done this? Oh, yeah, one federal agency cannot mess around in the claimed jurisdiction of another federal agency, except the FBI. Which can claim jurisdiction over the crimes of littering committed in Mayberry.

While that might have once been the case, that is rapidly changing. AI and intelligent agents are rapidly replacing customer service agents. They screen, route and solve routine problems once handled bu humans. And they do so more efficiently than humans. Thursday we had a small problem in our lab. Two pushes of a button and I was talking to the right person who had the answers - delivered with a charming Southern accent!

There’s another factor - many of these call centers are in decidedly anti-American places. Also places where particular religions or sexual orientations are demonized and/or are illegal. I’ve experienced first hand with call centers in Kenya. As just one example. It’s frightening. These people have access to so much of our personal information - and they despise us.
