also comprehensive yet succinct, and so very urgent.
America is mad. 80% of the world's countries have no such birthright citizenship. A system that allows one Supreme Court vote to literally destroy the Free World must be amended. It happened before with SCOTUS. Is there an American will to return sanity to its people? Where is Wisdom to be found? Too many traitors, too many snakes, too many weak actors, too many illegal scavengers. It's hard to defend the USA as a true democracy. Republican votes in blue states are worthless. The die is cast there. The electoral system allows just very few states to arbitrarily decide an election. Voting rights are given to non-citizens. Judges impose whimsical partisan decisions altering democratic aims. Foreign countries can colonise us intentionally. Muslims, particularly Qatar's money, but plain illegal immigrants too, China's schemes , we are so vulnerable and yet pretend we are omnipotent . Thus we don't defend.
The same thoughts, About the same challenges , I have in our country. Ayaan really comes from a far country: which enables her to really compare the differences between cultures.
I feel the western left wing people are throwing away the most precious value : our Christian history, on which our institutions are built. After staying in Uganda in the 1980 βs I was shocked about the lock of knowledge about our own values when I returned to the Netherlands. And till now this proces is still going onβ¦.
If you are American from Holland, then how is it that you assert that the heritage of USA is Christian? On the internet, unless it is plainly stated, it is a guess as to where your statement "our country" refers to.
The founding persons in the American states were overall Unitarian and that was and is anti-Trinitarian. So, specifically NOT Christian - and they made a very strong point of SEPARATION of Church and State.
Maybe our conversation might direct its attention to the reality that Western Europe had numerous colonial holdings but were long established as Christendom, a culture explicitly Trinitarian and holding laws and customs based upon the Decalogue, the 10 Commandments.
Some founders from New England may have been Unitarian (Congregationalists), Jefferson seems to have been a Deist, but many lived more traditional Judeo-Christian values as they espoused the cry for freedom and individual rights through a limited government.
I am Dutch , born and raised. My great adventure started in 1982, after doctorate in social science and married to a medical doctor mwe were on a missionary vocation in Kamuli Mission Hospital in Uganda during Milton Obote: The cold war was taking place and three years long the suffering of the people: poverty , illness, cruelty, and amorality all due to the North fighting against the south and vice-versa: I felt in a complete other world. In a real world.
After returning home to the Netherlands I realized: there is no separation of Church and State anylonger. In western Europe The State has incorporated the Church, with all the social wellfare. The media have taken over the rolls of priests. They are the secondantes of the ruling power. In Fact: there is a growing gap for the Main Story: It can now be Money, Woke, Gender, Pfas, Nitrogen, Asylum. But none is fulfilling in keeping society on direction with a Main Story.
But for the political Islam. I learned in Uganda: βkeep quiet as a dove, but be smart as a snakeβ:
When those foolish western want to be fooled, we just talk as they do, but act as we would do.
Well, as a Christian I see Western Europe overall as an immensely fruitful arena of the union of church and state insofar as the love of neighbour as of self was the yeast which caused the dough to rise. Jesus was not political, not a social reformer and did not give preferential option to the poor but it seems clear to me that His Holy Spirit brought about so many of the humanitarian benefits and attitudes contained in the culture of Christendom.
As the faith of the fathers waned, brotherly love was replaced by the ideas of human rights and frangible human dignity and damnation of the rich, healthy and powerful.
Likewise, I see the unity of church and state in the Muslim world as horrifying. Like you I encountered it while in Timor during the Indonesian invasion and in Bangladesh with the East/West Pakistan rift.
The postchristian world is a regression toward the cultures like Babylon, Sodom and Egypt and is threatening to engulf what used to be Christendom and its multitudinous colonies.
All these words, so true. One could add so many more, in support. We, who were legally born on this soil, are very fortunate. Let not that good fortune be stolen from us by those who come here to take advantage for themselves, not to utilize the advantages already gained here by the blood, sweat, and tears of those who came before, with sincere intent of loyalty and productivity in the name of this great nation.
All the examples you cited today are powerfula nd moving. Thank you for these important reminders --too bad the people who really need to read them probably are not doing so.
You are correct that the founders/drafters of the 14th Amendment could not have foreseen the situation we have today. The difficulty is that the Constitution Amendment says what it says, in plain English. The Court over the past 80 years has tried to amend it, mostly for politically leftist purposes. The present Court's is drifting away from that. Roe v. Wade (not the only example by far) was bad Constitutional Law. Amending is political heavy-lifting. I cannot see the proponents of reform obtaining 2/3 of each house of Congress to propose and 3/4 of the states to ratify. It might be possible to obtain 2/3 of states to call for a convention, but that could result in other, undesirable, amendments, could degenerate into chaos. Our government must legislate to tighten the border to control this.
I think the Supremes botched the Birthright Citizenship case. They should have stated the obvious. Itβs unclear what βjurisdiction β means in a strict legal sense, and that perhaps Congress could clarify it. Justice Roberts seems to have un unhealthy instinct to want to be seen as moderate or as legitimate in the eyes of βpolite society β rather than just focusing on the law. Decreeing that Obamacare was a tax was another example of this. Trump v. Barbara is maybe the worst Supreme Court decision in my lifetime.
Excellent time to reflect 4th July for those still seeking,,..

Thankyou for your article Ayaan. It is so important that citizens accept and act on their responsibilities.
With regard to the Pointe du Hoc, I went to live in Normandy near the D day beaches. I used to walk and cry walking among the white crosses at Omaha Beach. Those American boys did not stand a chance. As soon as the gangplank of the landing craft was pushed down they were shot before they got in the sea, in fact as soon as they looked up. What would go through the mind of fellow soldiers thinking why am I going to die in a place so far away from my home and family.? I have such respect for those wonderful American boys who died on that foreign beach in a foreign land. I remind myself that without their sacrifice I would be writing this in German.
Thank you for this. I wish you a wonderful Independence celebration year. More and more I pray for our true patriots to enter the political arena and "take arms" against a very real threat to this special one of a kind country.
Thank you, Ayaan! I will always read what is on your incisive, consequential mind! The latest primary votes for such haters of the American way of life are not at all indicative of what the majority of Americans feel. Keep doing your important work; you are supported by more of us than you know. Bless you!π
Iβm reading the dissents, esp. Thomas and Gorsuch. Does anyone know where I can find them in a legible font? SCOTUS.gov is taking days and days and daysβ¦
If the US is an experiment, then it is taking quite a long time to reach a conclusion where there is overall satisfaction with the way that the nation is governed and how it behaves amongst the nations of the rest of the world.
I didnβt say that. We are the longest living Constitutional Republic to date, perhaps the longest existing Republic with a Constitution that has lasted 250 years.
Happy 4th, Ayaan! We take your words to heart and try to live them in our everyday lives. Thank you. ππ»

Happy Fourth of July, 250th Anniversary! Justice Kavanaugh gave us a road map to
ending birthright citizenship. Congress can do it. Praying that Congress will have the courage to do so.
as always, a breath of fresh air

Maybe it is just in adolescence.
In historical context, we are Methuselah.
It is not true that the Union is older than any previous civilisation
I didnβt say that. We are the longest living Constitutional Republic to date, perhaps the longest existing Republic with a Constitution that has lasted 250 years.
Methuselah was an attempt at humor.
Ah! OK, point taken.
