Carl Trueman's latest book demonstrates the post-Christian West's desperate plight: that in rejecting God we have killed ourselves, and the only solution is a return to faithful Christianity.
I certainly agree that denial of the sacred and our human origin in the sacred is essential to human and social flourishing. We are "in the image of God." However, as one who grew up as a Unitarian-Universalist, I have never found the "sacred" belongs exclusively in any particular set or religious beliefs or doctrines. I think Restoring the West limits its audience severely by focusing, it seems, primarily on Christian beliefs.
We had the privilege of having Carl and his wife worship with us this past year as he was finishing this book at Notre Dame. We are very thankful for them and will be praying as they continue to positively influence wherever they go.

For all those who do believe, it is inconceivable that those who do not believe cannot.
For all those - like myself - who do not and never have. It is inconceivable that any serious adult really does believe... in a deity, spirit, god, devil, etc.
Don't get me wrong. I have read most of Humanity's holy books at least once. There is value in these scriptures. As there are in philosophical and political treatises. However, suspending disbelief simply won't happen... ever. In the same way that it is impossible to uninvent something.
Human beings are vain, finite creatures. They all without exception have a definite beginning and end. Which makes it hard for them to grasp anything that may not. Something that is truly infinite.
The First Law - and it is not a theory, it is a proven absolute - of Thermodynamics says that energy may not be created or destroyed. It may only change state.
Einstein's Special Relativity states that the energy - the sum of all forces that comprise and hold a quantity of matter together - equals that mass multiplied by the speed of light. Whilst this is not an absolute/law. There is no evidence to disprove it and much to support it.
Einstein's Theories, like Darwin's before him, rattled the religious consensus. It took several decades and a lot of flawed mathematics to subsequently arrive at The Big Bang Theory. The hippy generation realised this was untenable and created the even more ludicrous String Theory.
During the past decade, two physicists, Das & Ali, have come up with some ideas that apply some much clearer thinking. Unfortunately, a lot of established physicist's have a lot of both salary and face to lose if their conclusions are proven correct. Hence, it's not being widely publicised. Although, most search engines will take you to it.
In my not so humble opinion, the Universe is infinitely large and infinitely old, has no beginning and will never end and, there never was a "... first molecule"!
I understand "homicide" to mean taking the life for another person I think the Judeo Christian Biblical Triune Deity with Jesus Christ as Son with a Human Mom is being obliterated That Image and Likeness- so Our Dads an Our Sons deeply affected a Our daughters sisters reject the Old.. Hence "suicide" is what results - self destruction.( addictions to substances, other idols, fantasies that lead to "anihilation" through Nilistic behaviors evident everywhere - Data and stats show targets are current White Europe and European who came here in the 19th century
