Now that this partially exposed the activist industry, many more nonprofits need to be exposed. Animal rights organizations like PETA, HSUS, ASPCA and “human rights” organizations like Amnesty International and ADL need a reckoning.

Hopefully this signals a goodbye, and good riddance to the SPLC. Kings of the race grifters.

SLPC needs to be GONE! Maybe even serve as an example to others.

Great coverage of the grift and damage the SPLC has done Trey.

But may I offer a tiny edit to your last sentence? " bad actors like the SPLC cannot be given any sanction or support." I would say "bad actors" who have caused great harm to individuals and good instituitons plus illegally raised money..should be completely shut down and forced to pay restitution.

I knew of Morris Dees from back in the late 70s in Alabama. He was a grifter from the start.

“The majority legitimately belong on such a list” is a very broad statement and needs clarity. What groups, individuals, monuments, etc. “legitimately” need to be destroyed?

The SPLC has created and perpetuated division in their myopic views and activism. I agree that the SPLC should not be given any sanction or support.

To answer your question, every NGO that received more than 25% of its income from the federal government. At that point, it becomes a grift.

The question I posed referred to the author’s third paragraph under WHY IT MATTERS: “The SPLC’s most visible project is likely its lists of groups and individuals the organization defines as advancing ‘hate’. The majority legitimately belong on such a list.” I, truly, would like the author to clarify who he thinks belongs on “hate” lists.

Thank you for clarifying your post. I agree with your completely valid critique.

In 2016 Oxford dictionary word of the year was “post-truth”. Ever since I have strived to proclaim THE Truth. Now 10 years later, I have coined what I believe to be a new word, “Truthsade” as directly related to “Crusade”.

As you may know in the word crusade, "crus-" originates from the Latin crux (cross), the suffix -ade indicates an action, process, or the result of an action.

Essentially then, while crusade means a "journey marked by the Cross" or "the action of the Cross", “Truthsade” means a “journey marked in re-proclaiming Truths” or “the action of re-proclaiming Truths”.

Truthsade!!!…Deus Vult! (God Wills It in Latin)

SPLC and its ilk just always had a noxious smell to me. They seemed full of ill-adjusted, amoral or sociopathic, damaged people. Finding out they were founded by a true race grifter who "switched sides" confirms my suspicion of this org's originally toxic nature. These kind of extreme 180 "rehabilitations" are usually the same sick personality finding not healing, but a new drug to keep the high going.

Over $800 million in assets. It'd be great to see this vast hoard of wealth distributed to those the SPLC has unjustly vilified and damaged over its long sordid history. Good riddance to this vile nest of vipers.

This article is Full of Lies about SPLC, which has done a lot of good and it models the kind of ideals we should have more of: anti-racism, judicial fairness, and equality, especially under the law. Why don't the writers of this article attack the real enemies of good Americans--the white racist neo-Nazi militias, the radical MAGA people who want to punish the poor by taking away their healthcare, foodcare and education.

You are either stupid or a liar. SPLC has not done anything good since it sued a penniless and nearly-defunct KKK. What legitimate American NGO parks millions in three different offshore bank havens, using 3rd parties to hide that fact? I know Morris Dees. He was always a grifter and obviously on the prowl sexually even in the late 70s. Your last sentence is so utterly ridiculous that I am surprised you posted it here amongst intelligent, knowledgeable folks. Go soak your head in chap chardonnay.

Name ONED --justONE real "good thing" SPLC hase done in the last 20 years. They enhanced Obama's division among Americans.

Eugine Nier's avatar

Is the SPLC paying you to grift for them?

rsketchl's avatar

.so what you're saying is that a once credible org turned into something else - as with many other orgs, eg the heritage foundation, the republican party, the fbi, . . .

Steve's avatar

Your point being what? Finish the sentence if you want folks to understand your point. However, I do agree that the 3 entities you name are certainl not credible any more.

Elizabeth Rome's avatar

Oh --but look at the others....feeble, weak, unproven excuse! The "damage" you suggest is very different in every case.
