TWAA: As We Defend Western Principles, Keep Truth at the Forefront, Not Personality
Though our speech should be seasoned with wisdom, those who love liberty should never mince words—or kowtow to charm and charisma.
Much to our great delight, Restoring the West is well on its way to making a lasting, outsized impact on the renewal of the greatest, freest society in mankind’s history. Truth, though not always popular, will always find its audience, and we are making solid headway as we find, connect with and expand ours. Thank you for being a valuable supporter, and we hope you stick around. Looking ahead, we plan to roll out several new products in the coming months: a podcast, monthly webinars, a Restoring the West shop, and—most importantly—a network of 10-15 international journalists based in major cities across the West.
What I’m Thinking About
Disagreement is rarely fun, at least for most. Women and girls of the Muslim faith, as I once was in childhood and young adulthood, especially struggle with challenging falsehoods or freely sharing basic opinions. There is usually no benefit, after all, to standing out in male-dominated, Islamist-centric societies requiring total obsequiousness from their females. Even after I escaped a forced marriage in Africa for the freedom of the Netherlands and finally America, I grappled with calling a spade a spade. It took several years of acclimating to my new, free speech-friendly society to speak up without fear, to say, “No, I disagree.” But what once was a hallmark of Western civilization—the boldness to declare truth at any cost—has dwindled recently.
