The Finnish Supreme Court has wrongly equated peaceful Christian expression with hate speech, undermining the distinction between deeply held belief and genuine incitement to harm.
Very well articulated! We need to wake up as the Body of Christ to challenge the outright assault on our faith where even quoting the Bible can be seen as hate speech.
In this instance I believe Keir Starmer and Labour are very intentional and targeting anyone who is not muslim. This is Islamophobia law to be specific and trying to wrap it any other way is simply dishonest. Sadly I’ve not witnessed a more dishonest government in recent times.
Acquitted twice, but they still went after her. Tells you all you need to know. Normally it only the guilty findings that keep getting appealed, not the not guilty. Not a good omen (have there been many?) for the Nordic nation.
In the USA, a defendant can appeal a conviction, but a prosecutor can not appeal a not guilty verdict. It's in the constitution.
More and more, I recognize the wisdom of our founding fathers, and the sheer idiocy of the political thugs trying to convert us into a third world country.
The "rational explanation" is that there are things in the so-called holy books that are hate speech. What should be done about it? Nothing. We must protect the right to free speech. And we should prosecute real crimes like rape, even if they're committed by a particularly noisy group that thinks it should be protected no matter what heinous act they commit.
The irrationality is the double standard being employed by Western jurisdictions whereby they outlaw and prosecute one set of doctrines and beliefs (I.e. Christian) while turning a blind eye to others.
Christianity is the easy target. Let's see what happens when Islamic scripture, including the haddiths and Sura - which are far, Far, FAR more incompatible with progressive sensitivities - comes under then same dedicated legal attack. Because if these social champions don't go after them with the same verve, the same reasons, the hypocrisy and discrimination will become glaringly obvious, embarrassing, and - like already well established in Britain and Canada - yet another western liberal-democracy-in-name-only will get a yet another two tiered legal system with institutionalized inequality through legal privilege, in this case for Muslims.
The state fears to prosecute crimes by Muslims. That could set off violent riots. So Christians are an easy target. When was the last time mobs of Christians rioted and burned down cities?
The State of Victoria in Australia is moving in a similar direction. Many of the Green / Socialist politically ‘Progressive’ parties in Western countries have similar policies and legislative goals, which is to effectively make Christian doctrine and belief illegal. In the Gospel of John, Jesus told us this day would come. Christians are being faced with the same choice that Peter & John had to make in the Book of Acts: “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, “We ought to obey God rather than men.”” (Acts 5:29). Of course our Christian brothers and sisters in Muslim Sharia countries and Communist countries have been in this predicament for decades. How should we respond? "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:10)
Of course, the entire concept of "hate speech" is designed specifically to empower the suppression of views like this. Nebulous and subjective, anything can be argued to be "hate speech", creating a powerful cudgel of control.
Time to wake up… not only in Europe! Love the homosexuals but hate their flag and propaganda! Where is the Christian flag…not in Starbucks not at city hall.
It is whether *Christian* faith can be lived or spoken of in Europe. Other faiths that are far less accomodating of LGBTQ+ etc will be given a free pass.
Well said… Unbridled, are we not headed down this slippery slope in the US? The fear to share basic beliefs and speak out about our most basic truths and freedoms, will eventually doom our culture and society. It’s unfortunate that Christians tend to be the most complacent in speaking truth and speaking up.
Well! I am in the UK, and you get arrested for praying silently in your head outside an abortion clinic now…so perhaps we are even further down the road
This entire issue is beyond ridiculous, and scary at the same time. Imagine " cancelling" Shakespeare's " The Merchant of Venice" because it is widely considered anti-semitic. Or prohibit the performance of one movement of Moussorgsky's " Pictures at an Exhibition" , which depictes a rich Jew abusing a poor Jew? And on and on. The obsession with condemning the Hebrew and Christian Bibles- without condemning the Quran- is a sign of moral turpitude .Those prosecuting such literature would benefit from reading it with wisdom, humanism and historical context. Instead, idiocy is all we have left. Poor Europe. And, surely, we expected better from Finland.
Thank you for sounding the alarm, Daisy. This ruling is deeply concerning for Christians everywhere, including here in the U.S. and Christian ministries, here, reaching out to European people. Prayer is needed!!!
All this rhetoric aimed at criminalising ‘hate speech’ is perverse in itself: it amounts to passing judgement on a person’s supposed intentions or feelings, regardless of any actual actions taken, which leaves room for interpretation. To decide that “hate” is present, it is sufficient that some people feel affected by the statement: this means nothing other than that “hate” can be found everywhere from then on, and that this is a gift to the paranoid...

I remember smuggling Bibles back in 1990. If caught, passport would have been stamped with the equivalent of carrying porn.
Which into which country were you smuggling Bibles? The PRC?
I notice that perhaps it is not any religion, but definite boundaries on what hate speech is and isn’t that needs definition.

Exactly this

In the meantime, Islamic rapists get free passes because they are a minority group there and it's "just their culture".
The hypocrisy and double standard is diabolical. There is no rational explanation for this assault on the Judeo-Christian world view.

Apparently the only religious language that can be expressed in Finland, & I fear a great many other places, is Islam.Very disturbing trend.

Let's hope they don't dig too deeply into the Koran.
How would they do that? Finns don't read Arabic.
Actually, let us dig very deeply.

The USA is one of the last lines of defense against this morally repugnant malaise killing Western Society.
I can't help wondering what they would do to a Muslim who posts an anti-LGBTQ comment.

Time to outlaw any mention of Hell. To burn in eternal fire might upset someone!
